I totally know what you mean. Just recently (like the last month or so), I started posting some of my stuff and it's scary as hell. My work doesn't even come close to most of the stuff out there but I have a few fans which helps put me at ease.
Totally agree with you about letting RL friends read my stuff. First, they think I'm weird anyway for being so obsessed with House and second, they would think I'm absolutely bonkers if they knew I actually wrote about the characters. It's so hard to relate to people who don't understand my love for the show and its characters.
