LOL. Girl Interrupted is fiction. Much of that movie was incorrect and romanticized for the screen. It also takes place in the 1970's. Lots has changed since then. The main character was admitted by another party (parents) after attempting suicide...correct me if I'm wrong. I haven't watched it since it came out.

Suicide changes things, because it makes you a danger to yourself. If you're a child or college student living at home, that makes it easier for mom and dad to commit you as well.
