Three questions here...apologies if its tl;dr

1) I've recently been through the archives here looking at past requests (I find 'tis easier that the archives over at house_wilson as it tends to filter the best stuff over here) and I saw one request several times yet no-one ever seemed to find it. It apparently featured House thinking Wilson was cheating on him when in actual fact, he was smoking.

I thought, I'd request it again as maybe someone has read it more recently and could share it with me as it sounded like something I'd love to read.

2) Im pretty sure this isn't canon...but I could be mistaken of course. I vaguely recall someone *I assumes Wilson* having a conversation with someone else (heh sorry this is vague) about relationships. and they say something to the effect of  "I cant help loving him, is that crazy?" and then Wilson replying, totally deadpan "Yes, yes it is. You should seek psychiatric help". Again, im nearly 95% sure its not canon, more than likely it was in a fic.

EDIT: I totally fail at seperating my fandoms. I realised earlier that its actually a quote from The Mentalist. Guhh -_- I feel right stupid now. I sweaaar I could hear Wilson saying it :P

3) Kind of a discussiony thing...What peeves you about fanfic/fanon?...just really for my own curiosity :P Personally, it nearly always irks me when our boys are called 'Greg and James'

So yeah, your thoughts?

Thanks in advance :)

I'm not sure about the first two.

But the third? What annoys me more is when they refer to each other as 'Doctor House' and 'Doctor Wilson'. I've read a few like that. I mean, I could understand in a clinical sense in front of a patient but not in each others apartments or that.

It is even worse when they would be good otherwise, but it just completely ruins it for me.

I don't think I have read any like that lately, thankfully.

for #3.
When the word 'lover' is mentioned far too often.
IMHO it sounds horrible, and it makes House and Wilson far too gooey and romantic
than I could picture them being.
EXAMPLE] He took his lover into his arms, and kissed his lover's face, whilst smelling his lover's hair, relishing in his lover's scent.

I kid you not, I have read something in the past that was very similar to that.

For some reason I totally agree with this. In anything I write, I have no idea why but I just can't see myself writing the word 'lover' in there. It's fine when others use it, as long as it's used sparingly, but in my own fics, I can't place it...weird huh?

Out of character schmoop. Now, there is an amount of lenience with this... Wilson can be sweet and schmoopy when he wants to peel panties, and House writing Stacy a note for her 'heart condition' is evidence he's capable of schmoop...

But when everything is rainbows and bunnies and OMFG LOVE I get annoyed...

Worse than the overuse lover, much, much worse, is the use of epithets, especially epithets which are just flat wrong in context of the scene. For example: The oncologist kissed the diagnostician.
Horrible. Unless Wilson is palpating House for tumors and House is trying to diagnose which STD Wilson might have while they're kissing each other, they shouldn't be described as ocologist and diagnostician during a kissing scene. If you disagree, then imagine the reverse: The Brown-eyed Cuddle Bear gravely handed the scans back to his Snookums, and said, "Yes, she has cancer, but it's not what's making her bleed from her eyes and ears. Tumor's in the wrong place."
See how jarring that is? Yuck.
Another turnoff: Women bashing. Not needed. Not sexy. Not cool.
I'm sure I'll think of more.

:P I totally agree with you! I hate it when someone writes things like that it doesn't really make sense why they describe them like that!

re: 3.
seconding the anon on women bashing. I'm okay if the fic is on crack and turning one character evil, who might possibly be female, is part of a more complex and detailed plot but I have read things before in which all of the female characters in House, even peripherals, are suddenly Made Of Nasty. And it's rather mean.

Another deep annoyance is horrendously!submissive Wilson. I don't just mean 'a little tiny bit because of something in the plot' I mean when he is basically practically a female stereotype, with most of his personality removed, and House is this big-bad-macho-wolf-type. :S I understand some people like it but....meh. Not for me at all- too ooc!

A pet peeve in fandom in general is people not warning for food sex. People warn for other potential 'squicks' (egs foot fetish, bdsm, crossdressing, sex toys, etc), but so many don't see strawberries and champagne/cream, chocolate body paint or Anything Else (I once read a fic, not in this fandom, in which characters had food sex with fried chicken involved. Ick!); I respect that other people may find it sexy, I just wish there were warnings for it, the way there are warnings for other kinks because it's such a huge turn-off for me.

Thank god they were just eating it off of each other, silly as that sounds. I got horrible visuals of the drumsticks being used as makeshift dildoes.

It wasn't torchwood (if it was in there too OH NO! IT'S SPREADING!!!). It was a very small fandom many many years ago, but the whole issue was made worse in that I was friends with the author and wasn't quite brave enough to go 'This makes me want to vomit. WARNINGS PLEASE.' I just tiptoed away feeling distinctly traumatised!

Re: Wilson. I think I get what you mean, and I agree. I don't like submissive Wilson either, even in BDSM stories. I prefer House to be the sub, simply because he's more likely to be written in character. I hate it whenever an author doesn't recognize Wilson's wit and snark. He's extremely witty, and can often get the best of House in that arena. There are stories in which Wilson disapproves of even the most innocuous jokes House makes and is a generally staid stick-in-the-mud, and that's just not like Wilson. He's not Mr. Proper in every situation and loves getting drunk as much as House. Wilson's sense of humor can be just as cutting as House's toward other people when there are no witnesses about. As for Wilson being girly, yeah House has ennumerated Wilson's girly traits so I won't go into them, but House has a few traits that are traditionally considered girly of his own: 1. love of gossip 2. love of celebrity mags 3. love of soap operas 4. fanboying soap opera stars 5. loves buying shoes (athletic ones, but the number of them, well...) 6. gets distracted at work obsessing about his man and asking everyone for advice about how to handle him. 7. usually makes his "date" pay for his meals and movies.

Re: Food sex. I've started seeing warnings for that. I personally love warnings too. They me find my kinks faster as much as they warn me away from things I hate.

I'm so glad you agree. :) Wilson is such a witty little character and I think it's brilliant how well rounded he and House are- both having masculine and feminine characteristics rather than being cartoon-cut out kind of blokes, when people ignore half of their characteristics in order to make one 'macho' and one 'girly' (or gylrig) then it's as if they've had half their personality wiped.

Huzzah! I am glad to hear people have started warning for food sex :) it may make fandom an easier place on my stomach ;)

Amen about them not being cookie-cutter blokes. Especially House. I just remembered another traditionally feminine thing about him. He was a cheerleader in college. How many other dramas would have the male lead be a cheerleader for any reason?
