Canon Question: Wilson during infarction & length of time known eachother

Two quick questions based on the TV episodes:

1. Are there any clues or information on where Wilson was while House had the infarction and was in the hospital? (Does even Wilson helping him through rehab etc get mentioned?) I just re-watched 3 stories last night but didn't see any mention there.

2. Has it ever been said how long House and Wilson have known each other?

Thank you :) I'm a new fan and really appreciate the help in advance!

Hi! *waves*

1. The lack of mention of Wilson's whereabouts during the infarction is frustrating! Wilson does comment in "Need to Know" about being there when Stacy left ("Wilson: The last time you left, I was the one stuck picking up the pieces.") but we don't know how soon after the infarction she left.

2. They have never said the number of years. In "Birthmarks" they said House and Wilson met when Wilson had just gotten out of med school.

I put their meeting at being around 1992 or 1993. But that's just my interpretation of ambiguous information.

Wilson mentions that House has lived in his apartment for 15 years, which makes me think that he's been around for at least that long.

Wilson also knew about House's patient Esther Doyle, which was 12 years prior to the episode it was mentioned in, which also leads me to think they'd known each other at least that long.

From Birthmarks, I gauged them at knowing one another for 17 years. But mind you, that's just my interpretation. I could be wrong.

And I have been before. I've taken information the show has given me and drawn conclusions, only to have them air another episode which basically contradicted what they'd established.

So I guess what I'm saying is, however long you want them to have known each other, is good enough.

Except putting them together in med school, which people seem to want to do and is basically impossible, due to their age difference.

1) No, we've never heard of where he was. Maybe he was away, like on a honeymoon. We do know he tells Stacy he was there to pick up the pieces when Stacy left, which was shortly after the infarction, so he was definitely around at that time to help House.

2) It was just revealed in s. 5 ep 4, Birthmarks. Do you want to be spoiled? :P

And no, they didn't say the specific number of years, but they gave us some pretty solid pointers in Birthmarks. See comment below :P

Scratch that: As already said, he was fresh out of med school, so maybe he was 24 at that time. If we assume that Wilson is the same age as RSL, since House is the same age as HL, Wilson is 39 now, so that means they've known each other for 15 years, which is basically what most people have assumed, adding up all the little details we've been told about things in their past.

Just FYI - 24 would be young for getting out of med school. Typical ages in the US are 18 graduating high school, 22 graduating college, 26 or older graduating med school (it's a four-year program, and some people don't go straight from college to med school but some do).

Then again my good friend finished high school at 17 (skipped a grade in elementary school) and college at 20 (got a full year's credit for AP courses taken in high school) without being a super-genius, so I guess 24 isn't too crazy.

And we know how smart Wilson is, just seeing how he's very young for a department head :P

But yeah, I know it's a bit young, but I did try to look it up on the webz and it didn't seem totally unlikely.

House is an all or nothing kind of guy. Wilson obviously caught his interest because he was so damn cute at that age!, so House did what he does, jumped on the guy in the YOU'RE MINE NOW kind of way, never to let go. Wilson wasn't the aggressor, House was. Which actually fits perfectly with what Bonnie tells House (and us), that Wilson didn't initiate the relationship, she did. Probably all the women did. Wilson just gets caught up and tags along. So yeah, I think House pretty much grabbed him by the collar and dragged him away :P

There is no indication that they were apart after that. We don't know how long Wilson has been working at PPTH, but for a very long time, it seems. Maybe so far as to when the case with Esther took place, which means he'd have to have started work immediately at PPTH.

If it serves your fic better that they were apart for a while, then I'm all for artistic freedom ;)

24 is totally possible -- I once worked out that if I were to go into medical school, I'd graduate 23-24.

Loads of good points already made.

Re 2, I have spent far too much of my life contemplating the House/Wilson timeline, my thoughts are here (http://hwshipper.livejournal.com/22089.html) if you're interested :)

Ah, [livejournal.com profile] photoash, I didn't notice it was you! Thank-you! *waves*

Also to answer question one, in Detox from Season 1 at the end when House admits to being an addict, Wilson talks about how much he changed, and he said that the change wasn't because of the pain after the infarction, but because of the pills.

So it dosn't exactly help with where Wilson was during the infarction but it definitely proves that Wilson knew House very well from before it happened, which fits in with the Birthmarks timeline, and I would asssume he was around during the infarction and aftermath. I wish they told us more though.

And in I believe Cuddy has mentioned House being around PPTH for like 8 yrs. I believe that was around like Season 1 or 2. Can't remember which eppy though.

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
As of season 1, episode 15, it's confirmed that he'd been working at PPTH for eight years, which means the first three years working there he was still with Stacy, but Cuddy is once quoted as saying that he's taking "twice as much [Vicodin] as when [she] hired [him]," which, hopefully at that time, should have been none.

Just a random nitpick I saw a window to complain about. Sorry. :x

[identity profile] bookfan85.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL...oh don't worry, that's not really a nitpick. Sadly I think a lot of shows seem to contradict themselves. Maybe House had been working at PPTH for 8 yrs, but after the infarction had to be hired back and that maybe Cuddy wasn't Dean of Med. until after his infarction so would have hired House back. Does that make any sense? LOL That's just a thought on the scenario. That would be a great question to ask David Shore or Katie Jacobs. And we know that Cuddy was Dean of Med at 32 and according to House in the end of Season 2 or beginning of Season 3 she's approaching 40.

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, that does make sense; she didn't seem like Dean of Medicine in the flashbacks of Three Stories, but I would be curious as to how he got hired, then, considering they've said numorous times that she's the only one crazy enough to hire House in the first place.

The hiring back would make sense, but still, she should've said "hired you back after the infarction" or something. XP
